Cycle2Zero@home

Friday 23 October - Sunday 25 October 2020

#Cycle2Zero

“Mentor Mothers are unstoppable in reaching their clients. We always find a way to reach them and make sure they get the medical services they need.”

What is Cycle2Zero@home? One Big Weekend, One Big Impact

For one weekend, we’re challenging you, no matter where you live, to get moving for m2m and help raise much needed funds for m2m’s frontline health workers.

Now more than ever, they need your support, which is why Cycle2Zero@home is open to everyone, no matter where you are or your fitness ability. So, why not get your friends and family together to take on the challenge and help us cover more miles than ever before to support our health heroes.

Friday 23 - Sunday 25 October 2020

Anywhere and everywhere. You can cycle, run, or walk from the comfort of your own home, garden, or local route. This is your challenge done your way.

Choose your challenge, sign up, and get fundraising! If you don’t want to cycle, you can run, walk, or swim to make your miles count.

Cycle2Zero@home is for everyone, no matter where you are or your fitness ability.

For individuals: Are you looking to take on a new challenge, get fit, motivate your children, or simply do some good in your spare time? Cycle2Zero@home will do all of these things —and more!

For adrenaline seekers: Our elite challenge group will be taking on a 36-hour challenge, cycling time slots continuously over the weekend. If you think you’re up for cycling a little further, and reaching a higher fundraising target this is the challenge for you.

For the workplace: After months of working apart, are you looking to bond as a team, work together, and be the company which has cycled the furthest? Inspire colleagues and take on m2m’s workplace challenge.

Pick your challenge

m2m Mentor Mothers— the nearly 1,700 women living with HIV employed as frontline health workers—often travel far and wide to reach women, children, and families with lifesaving health services. But they are not alone.

Behind every Mentor Mother is a global community supporting them. This October, you can join this community and cycle, run, or swim in solidarity with m2m’s frontline staff.

Beginners: The Teddy Challenge

Mentor Mother Teddy Atim travels five miles every day to get to the health facility where she works in Uganda. Can you cover the distance she travels each week, 50 miles, over the weekend?

Intermediate: The Esther Challenge

Mentor Mother Esther Anyango cycles 10 miles to reach the health clinic where she participates in facility meetings. She does this weekly, covering around 75 miles a month. Can you cover 75 miles over the weekend?

Experienced: The Harriet Challenge

Mentor Mother Harriet Mutesi travels 10 miles a day to reach the health facility where she works—that is almost 200 miles a month. Can you cover 200 miles over the weekend?

Taking part as a family or team? Here are some ideas:

Can you cover five miles in a group relay race?

Can you take turns and swim 10 lengths of your local swimming pool?

Can you run around your garden or street 10 times and see who can do it the fastest?

Take these six simple steps and begin your Cycle2Zero@home journey

Support female African role models who are building healthy, thriving families.

Whether you are taking on Teddy, Esther, or Harriet’s challenge, you are supporting an entire sisterhood of Mentor Mothers who are delivering real change across sub-Saharan Africa.

Your support will make a big difference for families and entire communities

Even with social distancing, there are still lots of ways you can fundraise for m2m.

From hosting dinner parties, to virtual yoga classes and online quizzes, there are plenty of fun ways you can show your support, and help us raise much needed resources along the way while following your government’s advice on social distancing.

What can your money do?

Could help fund two support groups for up to 30 women living with HIV, where they can openly talk about issues they are facing in a safe space, and receive vital support from Mentor Mothers.

Could buy five bicycles for Community Mentor Mothers to reach women and families in remote communities. Many of m2m’s frontline staff have been designated "essential workers" during COVID-19 and continue to reach the clients who need them.

Could train two women living with HIV as they begin their transformative journey to become an m2m Mentor Mother.

Start fundraising!

Once you’ve registered and chosen your challenge, the next step is creating your fundraising page on JustGiving.

Click here if you are based in the U.S. and here if you are based elsewhere.

You can let people know what you’re doing, why you’re supporting m2m, and how they can sponsor you – don’t forget to spread the word on social media using the hashtag #Cycle2Zero and encourage your friends and family to take part too!

You can customise your fundraising homepage, share your story, and images of your challenge.

Do you think you can fundraise more than your target? You can make it higher according to your own goals.

Make your first donation yourself and ask others to match it. This often helps to get the fundraising ball rolling.

Post on social media, email your friends and family, and tell your network what you are doing. You’re taking part in an incredible challenge and your support will help frontline health workers in sub-Saharan Africa. This is something worth telling people about!

Are you looking for ways to boost your fundraising and make sure you hit your target? Here are some ideas…

For individuals...

Teach an online yoga class or guitar lesson and ask for a donation.

Put your knowledge to the test with a virtual quiz for friends, family, or colleagues.

Whether virtual or in real life, invite friends and family for dinner and ask them to donate what they would have spent in a restaurant.

While many of us are working at home, donate what you would usually spend on your travel

For families...

Get your family in the kitchen and sell your treats to neighbours.

Organise a virtual gaming extravaganza and place bets on the winning team.

Sell clothes, toys, and books on eBay. You can choose for donations to go to m2m.

Download our sponsorship form and ask neighbours to donate.

Fundraising in the workplace

Cycle2Zero@home is a powerful opportunity for you to engage your teams in supporting m2m Mentor Mothers at a time when they need support more than ever. It is a chance to get back in the saddle, boost team morale, and inspire colleagues.

Take on our fundraising ideas with your colleagues or in your workplace, and help raise vital funds while following your government’s advice on social distancing.

Set ambitious targets for team members and see who hits them. Who can cover the most miles the fastest? Friends and family might double their donation if they do.

Contact your employer’s HR department and sign up for your company’s match-scheme to double your impact and double your donations!

While many of us are working from home, ask friends and family to donate what they would usually spend during a week of travelling to work.

Ask your office colleagues to donate and vote for fancy dress ideas your team will wear during the Cycle2Zero@home weekend. Even if you’re cycling virtually, you can take photos!

Grab a spot in your internal newsletter and share the link to your team’s fundraising page, asking everyone to donate on that day.

Will your company post about Cycle2Zero@home on their social media or website? It could help boost donations far and wide.
