The stall that sold nothing

Makola Market is one of the busiest in Ghana. In the week before Easter 2023, we hired a stall that deliberately sold nothing all week long. It was the ‘Don’t Buy it’ stall. All its merchandise – you can explore it here – was created to expose the myths about sexual health that are still so prevalent among young people.

In sub-Saharan Africa one in three adolescent pregnancies are unplanned1, and six in seven new HIV infections among adolescents aged 15–19 years are among girls2. Eradicate the myths, and you’ve taken an important step to eradicating the problems. Will you help us get our ‘Don’t Buy It’ message to this generation of teenagers?

About us

We’re mothers2mothers. A charity that works for a future full of healthy women, healthy families and a healthy, thriving Africa. Our mentor mothers are the best possible team to help young people take control of their sexual health and their lives. They are young mums who’ve had to confront these issues themselves—and have emerged determined to drive change in their own communities. Our team are all trained, paid health professionals, and we work with governments and other health professionals across the world to build strong partnerships.

Our stall in Makola Market was an important step to combating the myths about pregnancy, HIV and sexually transmitted infections. We want to get our ‘Don’t buy it’ message across with stalls in markets across the continent. But we can only do it with help. We are looking for sponsors and donations.

Donate to mothers2mothers

If your business would be interested in how you could support us and sponsor our stalls in marketplaces right across the continent, email [email protected].

And if you’d like to make a donation that will help us run more myth-busting stalls in the future, every penny helps.
