The Lanesborough launches Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea in partnership with mothers2mothers

February 2016 – The Lanesborough will launch a special afternoon tea this Mother’s Day (6 March), in support of mothers2mothers, the charity which harnesses the power of Mentor Mothers to end paediatric AIDS in Africa. Recently re-opened after its 18-month refurbishment, the hotel will donate £5 from each tea which will be available between 6 – 24 March directly to mothers2mothers.

The hotel’s star Head Pastry Chef, Nicolas Rouzaud has created a special afternoon tea to inspire awareness and donations for the cause. Served in the stunning surrounds of the hotel’s fine dining restaurant Celeste, the tea includes a specially designed cake inspired by the charity’s logo, along with finger sandwiches, patisseries and homemade scones. Guests are encouraged to treat their own mothers, whilst raising awareness and funds for mothers2mothers.

Every day almost 600 children are infected with HIV globally – almost 90% of these cases happen within sub-Saharan Africa, and most are acquired from mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Founded in 2001 mothers2mothers (m2m) works to prevent mothers dying of AIDS and babies contracting HIV. The charity, whose supporters include Candice Swanepoel and Annie Lennox, trains, employs, and empowers local mothers living with HIV as Mentor Mothers, frontline healthcare workers based in understaffed health clinics and within communities, providing other HIV-positive mothers with vital health education and support to protect their babies from HIV.

Geoffrey Gelardi, Managing Director, The Lanesborough says of the partnership, “We are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause as mothers2mothers. What better way to support this cause than celebrating Mother’s Day by welcoming mothers and their families to The Lanesborough for an afternoon tea in Celeste”.

Emma France, European Director mothers2mothers adds, “It is a privilege to be joining forces with The Lanesborough to celebrate such a momentous moment in our 2016 calendar, Mother’s Day. The support of The Lanesborough brings us one step closer to our vision of a world where no mother dies of AIDS and no baby is born with HIV.”

Available from 6th – 24th March 2016 The Lanesborough’s mothers2mothers tea will cost from £48 per person or £62 per person with a glass of Champagne Taittinger. The Lanesborough will be donating a portion of all proceeds to mothers2mothers directly.
