mothers2mothers Joins Global Advocacy Initiative to Ask One Million Women & Girls Their Top Healthcare Priority

Today is The International Day for Maternal Health and Rights—a fitting day for the launch of a campaign that will advocate for quality healthcare for women and girls, driven by data collected from women and girls around the globe. mothers2mothers (m2m) is proud to partner with this two-year campaign, aptly titled What Women Want, which aims to ask one million women and girls by the end of 2018 what their top priorities are for quality maternal, reproductive, and sexual healthcare.

This project is being coordinated by the White Ribbon Alliance, an organisation whose mission is to activate the global movement for reproductive, maternal, and newborn health. Other partners include Women Deliver, Plan International, and Jhpeigo. What Women Want recognises the fact that for too long, health policy has been largely dictated by leaders who aren’t hearing the voices of the women and girls actually affected by those policies. Hearing directly from women and girls will accelerate progress towards identifying barriers and finding solutions that will bring us closer to achieving related Sustainable Development Goals.

The first step in this process is data collection. To provide quality healthcare, it is important to first understand what quality means to the women and girls we aim to help. The data collected will then be analysed and used to create a detailed advocacy agenda.

m2m joins the #WhatWomenWant campaign

As a partner in this campaign, m2m will ask our Mentor Mothers and clients what quality healthcare means to them, giving them and so many other women and girls a rare platform to advocate for their own healthcare needs. We are so excited to be working with What Women Want to involve and galvanise as many people as possible in making positive change for women and girls.
