mothers2mothers (m2m) is celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year, and to mark this milestone we decided to do something different and exciting to recognise our frontline team. Why? Our growth and impact over the last 20 years simply would not have been possible without the skills, dedication, and selflessness of our 1,800 Mentor Mothers—frontline health workers who are employed in health centres and communities across ten African countries to deliver vital health services and education.
To celebrate these health heroes and the contributions they have made over the last 20 years, m2m selected 20 lucky frontline staff to receive a monetary gift of R20,000 (approx. US$ 1,300) each. All frontline staff currently employed at m2m had an equal chance of being selected through a random automated system. The entire process was carefully and independently monitored by an m2m board member, ensuring that all Mentor Mothers stood an equal chance of receiving this gift.
Recipients were chosen from the following countries of operation: Angola (1), Lesotho (5), Malawi (3), Mozambique (4), South Africa (1), Uganda (2), and Zambia (4).
No restrictions have been placed on the gift, so these frontline colleagues will choose how best they would like to use it. One Mentor Mother from Malawi said: “I will finish building my house. My child is also going to secondary school next year and I will use some of the money to pay her school fees. I cannot even think straight right now, I am too excited!”
When contacting the gift recipients, m2m President and CEO—Frank Beadle de Palomo said: “This is a small token of our appreciation, and I would like to personally thank you all for your dedication, skill and hard work. We remain united in our mission—to deliver healthy, thriving families, and an end to paediatric AIDS.”
We are proud of the incredible work our Mentor Mothers and other cadres of frontline staff are doing to ensure our clients have access to health services, education and support, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
