100 miles for Mentor Mothers – Ride London 2019

On Sunday 4th August, four cyclists representing team mothers2mothers (m2m) took to the streets with over 25,000 other participants to take part in Prudential Ride London – Surrey 100, the UK’s largest festival of cycling.

Stepping up to the challenge, they took on leg-testing climbs to raise vital funds for m2m and the incredible work that Mentor Mothers do across sub-Saharan Africa – community health workers who often walk and cycle many miles to help vulnerable and marginalised women, children and families access vital health education and support.

So on Sunday, the m2m team cycled 100 miles each in London to celebrate their important and impactful work. Now in its seventh year, Ride London takes participants on a 100-mile route beginning in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (home to the 2012 Olympics), through the English capital and into Surrey’s countryside of rolling hills. It’s a truly spectacular event for everyone involved.

“mothers2mothers is a great charity, and I am proud to support their work. I jumped at the chance to support them by fundraising for Ride London, which had been an ambition of mine for some years. I have done other rides but never one quite like Ride London, and it was great to fly the mothers2mothers flag,” said m2m cyclist Mick Arber.

But what made Caitlin Palmer choose a cycling event? “As someone who doesn’t really cycle regularly it was definitely a challenge event for me! I wanted to take on something big and really push myself to do something outside of my comfort zone while raising money for an incredible cause. I’d love to one day complete the London Classics* and Ride London is my first step towards getting that medal!”

Are you thinking of taking on Ride London next year? Here are some words of advice from m2m cyclist Phil Stephens: “If you’re looking for a great challenge, whether you’re a keen cyclist or not, DO IT! It’s the most incredible experience. Being surrounded by so many other cyclists and supporters, it’s a challenge event like no other I’ve ever taken part in. You get such a sense of personal achievement with the added benefit of knowing you have raised money for an amazing charity.

We are so very proud of the m2m cyclists. Not only have they raised an incredible amount of money for mothers2mothers but they have also reached their own personal goals of completing a legendary 100-mile route. We cannot thank them enough.
