Swimming for Change – Swim Serpentine 2019

On Saturday 21st September, mothers2mothers (m2m) supporters Warren Gething and Vivien Loseby took on Swim Serpentine—the UK’s greatest open water swim festival.

The Serpentine lake in Hyde Park, London.

Organised by London Marathon Events, the festival is held in and around the Serpentine, a beautiful lake in London’s Hyde Park, and the venue for the open water swimming competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Thousands of swimmers came together to tackle a variety of distances including a half-mile, one-mile, and two-mile route.

Warren and Vivien participated in the most popular of all the distances, the one-mile swim which involves one full lap around the Serpentine. They made excellent times with Warren completing the route in 33 minutes and Vivien not far behind at 39 minutes. Talking about the day Warren said, “Having worked for m2m in the past, I know how vitally important this kind of fundraising event is. And that I got to do such an amazing swim on a beautiful day in Hyde Park, all the better!

Warren & Vivien all smiles after completing the one-mile swim!

We are so grateful for supporters like Warren and Vivien who are willing to go above and beyond in order to raise vital funds and awareness for m2m. Taking part in challenge events, like Swim Serpentine, supports the work of m2m Mentor Mothers—women living with HIV that we employ and train as community health workers—helping them deliver health and hope to even more women, children, and adolescents and contribute to the goal of an HIV-free generation.

Both Warren and Vivien are no strangers to a challenge. Back in 2018 they took part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon for m2m! If you are inspired to challenge yourself and take on a run, swim, or cycle for m2m, please get in touch at [email protected]. We have spaces in lots of different events so there is something to suit everyone, wherever you are in the world. What challenge will you take on?
