Mentor Mother Lights Up London

When mothers2mothers (m2m) Mentor Mother and spokeswoman Irene Nkosi visited London over Mother’s Day (U.K.) and International Women’s Day, she lit up the London office with her infectious energy and outgoing personality. Her visit began with on a high note, with her story being published in Stylist. From there, it continued uphill – starting off with an event in Liberty, one of London’s most iconic department stores. In front of 150 guests, Irene shared her emotional and inspiring story, and encouraged her audience to support m2m. After the successful evening, she spent the weekend exploring London, and on Monday, headed to Brussels to speak at the Make Mothers Matter Conference, an event amplifying the voices of mothers around the world, where she was described by others as the “star of the show.”

On International Women’s Day, Irene was an inspiration to us all with her live interview on BBC News, speaking about the events that led up to her working for m2m and how she and her fellow Mentor Mothers are helping improve the health and wellbeing of mothers and families each and every day in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite being asked difficult questions, Irene maintained her composure and was the embodiment of strength and bravery. To cap off her trip, she attended the RED Magazine International Women’s Day dinner as a guest speaker, spending the evening with twenty inspiring and successful women. When asked about the highlights of her trip, she said, “Being able to change the minds of people about HIV and having them listen to my story. I felt honoured.”
