On the 18th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks, mothers2mothers (m2m) Patron, South African model and fashion entrepreneur Candice Swanepoel, represented us on the trading floor at the Cantor Fitzgerald Charity Day 2019 to honour those lost on that tragic day.

Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 employees in the attacks on 9/11 and to remember and honour those colleagues and friends, they initiated an annual Charity Day, during which 100% of global revenue are donated to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and to charities, worldwide. The event is held at Cantor’s New York offices, its affiliate BGC’s offices around the world, as well as GFI’s offices in New York and London.

This year was the first to which m2m had the privilege of sending a representative. The structure of Charity Day has evolved over the years, to its current iteration as a high-profile event at which celebrity patrons of participating charities join employees on the trading floor to help maximize the day’s revenues. Over $159 million has been raised on Charity Day since its inception.

Candice met dozens of Cantor Fitzgerald employees, and participated in numerous trades. She even partook in a tradition of cutting the tie off one of the youngest employees on the floor. Nobody could provide the story behind that tradition, but it was clear from their faces, that it was all in keeping with the spirit of the day.

Candice has been a generous supporter of m2m since 2015, donating proceeds from the capsule denim collection she designed for the American lifestyle brand Mother Denim. Two years ago, she donated the proceeds of an animal-friendly shoe collection she created for footwear brand Mara & Mine. And most recently, she committed a portion of sales from her swimwear collection, Tropic of C, which she launched last year.

We thank Candice for her support and for allowing m2m to become part of such a special tradition of 9/11 remembrance.
